In the early years of the International Terminal the following airlines were operating from Cairns and linking Far North Queensland with a new northern International gateway. Schedules offered a selection of destinations with onward connections available from the main Asian hubs. Direct routing to SIN/TYO/KIX/HNL (QF), POM (PX), GUM/HNL (Continental), KIX/TYO (JAL), SIN (SIA), BKK (THAI Int), HKG (Cathay Pacific), KUL (Malaysian), AKL (Air New Zealand), HIR (Solomons), DPS (Garuda), Seoul (Asiana), MBA (Port Moresby).
Qantas Airways, Air Niugini, Continental Airlines, Japan Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Thai Airlines, Cathay Pacific Airways, Malaysian Airlines, Air New Zealand, Solomon Airlines, Asiana Airlines, MBA and Garuda Indonesia.
