FNQ Yestayear Images - January 1993

The new year brought two DC-8's into the region this month.

MGM Grand DC-8-62 N802MG a DC-8-62 arr from NRT on 16th with the rock band 'Guns and Roses'.  (It was rumoured that the cabin of the aircraft was thrashed).

The failed Indian Ocean Airlines L188 Electra ferried through from PER on the 10th and dep for MAJ the next day.  It carried a new registration N351Q (on delivery it was reg'd N3209A (VH-IOB ntu)-see August, and additionally was endorsed Indian Ocean Airlines which had not been applied on the delivery transit.

Meantime down in TSV, Operation Toga Coare's final three participants arrived to continue the experiment.

From the UK's RAE (Royal Aircraft Establishment) came their modified C130K-W2 meteorological platform XV-208

with NASA's DC-8-72 (N717NA) in company with the Ames Research Division ER-2 (NASA 709).
Note wing pod in open position,  the under fuselage panel removed revealing the Q-Bay,  and hard points on the wing tip.
