FNQ Yestayear Images - June 1993

With the closure of Talair in PNG on May 25, the company's fleet of Banderiante's and Twin Otters commenced their ferry down to Cairns for pre-storage maintenance with Flight West, prior to flying to Mareeba for extended storage. Banderiante P2-RDT was the first to arrive on the 10th. Logo and titles have been removed.

The first visit of an IL-76 to Cairns on the 4th resulted from a diversion on a flight from Christchurch NZ to Nadzab PNG. CCCP76423 is seen here on finals to RW15 and shortly after stopped on taxiway. The aircraft was carrying livestock and departed for Nadzab later in the evening, in doing so leaving large amounts of rubber on the runway following a tire bust.

The aptly named Heron Airlines operated a series of Air Safaris to the north with DH114 Heron 2 VH-NJI. It arr in CNS on the 21st after visiting Mt.Isa, Horn Island and Cooktown.

Former Danish Metro OY-GAW of X-Air seen here on the 4th prior to entering Hawkers for a post delivery check. It was rolled out as VH-UZW on the 22nd.

Kim Ryans pristine Cessna C-34 Airmaster was rolled out this month after its restoration. It took to the air for its first post rest. flight on the 20th flown by John Jones.
