Starlite Aviation Group Super Puma ZS-RTS

South African registered Super Puma ZS-RTS (Starlite Aviation Group) was noted in passing through Townsville today before arriving in Cairns.

Jetstar commences 787 services to Kansai/Osaka

Jetstar commenced B787-8 services from Cairns to Kansai today. This replaces the Airbus A330-200 aircraft which have operated this route since 2007.

Also today VH-VKG B788 operated its first revenue service as JST25 Cairns-Narita. VH-VKG was delivered from Paine Field to Cairns on the 26/8/2014.

Final Airbus A330-200 Jetstar service!

Today saw the last Jetstar Airbus A330-200 operate into Cairns from Japan. The Airbus A330-200 has been operating Cairns-Japan services since 2007. Routes included Narita, Kansai and Nagoya*. (*route withdrawn 2008).

VH-EBE A332 operated Kansai-Cairns as JQ16, the aircraft later ferried as JQ7985 Cairns-Melbourne.

As from today all Cairns-Japan services are now operated by the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.

FNQ Yestayear Images - August 1993

Ukraine registered AN-124 UR82066 enroute Houston to Perth with industrial equipment dropped in for a tech stop on the 14th. The departure was off RW33 and it was obviously heavy with a very late rotation. The nose on image was taken from the old ITB gallery, sadly soon to be closed as the building was extended.

On 23rd, former PNGDF C-47 P2-003 was noted with temporary reg VH-PTE endorsed over the serial, ready for its imminent onward ferry south.

A fairly rare sight in Australia taken in August at Mareeba was thsi shot of the former Talair (PNG) fleet of
turbine aircraft in storage awaiting disposal. Visible are six (6) Banderiante's and eleven (11) Twin Otters.

Former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl arrived 27th on Luftwaffe A310 10+21 for a short visit. He was met by the Australian PM, whose Falcon can be seen in the background. The Chancellor departed for Wellington on the 31st.
