FNQ Yestayear Images - May 1993

South Pacific DC-3 VH-EDC conducted a round Solomons/PNG Air Safari during the month visiting Honiara, Munda, Rabaul, Kavieng, Momote, Madang and Cairns arriving at the latter on May 27.  It was caught here on its stop at Madang.  It departed for BNE on the 28th.

Rare Irish registered DC-8-63 EI-TLD of Translift (Ireland) stopped over on a round the world Air Cruise with 150 tourists.  It arr from MEL 27th May and dep out to Fiji a few days later. The company also operated at the time a fleet of A320's on European IT charters.

RAAF B707 (A20-624) conducted a series of touch and goes at CNS on May 22 using c/s 'Windsor'.

On May 25th PNG's largest commuter airline TALAIR ceased operations.  It operated a fleet of Twin Otters and Banderiantes.  The aircraft were flown to Goroka where they were stored pending sale.  Talair were no strangers to Cairns, operating charters from Port Moresby for years. This image was taken of the aircraft in storage at Goroka 10 days later in this OTT shot.
